Scholarship & Financial Aid Resources for Nursing Students:

TG's Charley Wootan Grant Program

Since 2000, TG has been proud to support a grant program designed to provide help to students pursuing a higher education and who have financial need. For the 2012-13 academic year, TG's Charley Wootan Grant program will award grants totaling $5 million. TG will award $4 million in grants to students who are Texas residents. TG will distribute $1 million in grants to students residing outside Texas. Grants within Texas will be split between students going to 2-year colleges or vocational schools and students enrolled at 4-year universities. Exceptional Nurse
Exceptional Nurse awards a scholarship of $250.00 to a qualified student with a disability to continue their education in a nursing education program. Preference is given to undergraduate students. Applicants must demonstrate a serious commitment to the academic study of nursing and career excellence. This scholarship is not renewable and will only be awarded once. Osher Reentry Scholarship
The Financial Aid & Scholarships Office is now accepting applications for the Osher Reentry Scholarship.  Click here to view the eligibility requirements.  Applications are due June 1st, 2012.  The announcement is located  under the Headlines section of the Financial Aid & Scholarships page. 
 
Dr. Alma S. Adams Scholarship
Applications are now being accepted for the Dr. Alma S. Adams Scholarship for Outreach and Health Communications to reduce tobacco use among what the American Legacy Foundation calls Priority Populations*. Priority populations are those populations who are disproportionately targeted by the tobacco industry, or who often lack the tools and resources to combat smoking in their communities.  The scholarship, named for founding Legacy board member, Dr. Alma S. Adams will award two $5,000 scholarships to pursue undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited institution of higher education in the United States. The awards will be granted on a competitive basis for the following: a) a record of commitment to community service on behalf of an underserved community, preferably related to tobacco prevention and/or control and b) the best use of the visual arts, media, creative writing or other creative endeavor to convey culturally appropriate health messages aimed at raising awareness of tobacco’s harmful impact.  Applications will be accepted from January 1, 2012 until April 30, 2012. STUDENTS ADMITTED TO THE SCHOOL OF NURSING IN 2012 OR LATER WOULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR HRSA FINANCIAL AID.  “HRSA nursing programs address the nation's registered nurse shortage by supporting nurse education, practice and retention with scholarships, loans and loan repayments to nursing students, registered nurses and nursing faculty and grants to registered nurse training programs to help them increase the number of nurses, improve their skills and keep them in the nursing field.”

“Annual scholarship program to help outstanding students complete their studies leading to a BSN degree. Scholarships are awarded to nursing students who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to academic excellence and community service.”

Aetna Nursing Scholarship--$2,500  www.ncemna.org/scholarships
Full-time or part-time undergraduate students attending 2- or 4-year HACU-member institutions. Students must possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, and must be pursuing a degree in Nursing
 
United Health Foundation/Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities Scholarship--$2,000  www.hacu.net
Full-time undergraduate or graduate students attending 2- or 4-year HACU-member institutions with a declared major in Clinical Psychology, Dental Technician, Nursing, (Pre) Optometry, (Pre) Dental, (Pre) Medicine, (Pre) Pharmacy, Physician Assistant, Public Health, Mental Health, Behavioral Health. Students must possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Recipients will be required to submit a professional resume and participate in a pre and post scholarship survey.

The Good Samaritan Foundation
Once you receive this scholarship and remain in good academic standing - enrolled as a full time student, the Foundation will reimburse $1000 per semester until the end of the program.
