Position Description (responsibilities/duties)

The St. David’s School of Nursing at Texas State University seeks two dynamic educators interested in nursing faculty positions in a rapidly evolving environment who are passionate about working with students, have a reputation for collegial interactions, and are committed to teaching, scholarship, and service. The faculty are committed to educating nurses of the highest caliber who are caring practitioners, patient advocates, and visionary leaders. Two tenure track faculty positions are available at the Assistant/Associate Professor or Professor level for a nine-month appointment with possible summer employment to teach in the MSN-LAN Program.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications. Faculty responsibilities include: participation in curriculum development and teaching online courses primarily in the MSN-LAN program; however, candidates must be open to teaching across programs where qualified. This position will be located in the nursing building on the Texas State University Round Rock Campus in Round Rock, Texas. www.nursing.txstate.edu

Duties and Expectations of Selected Candidate:  Participate in curriculum development and program planning; advise and teach nursing students; serve on faculty committees; and develop a program of research.

Qualifications

Required:

  1. Earned doctorate degree in nursing or related field. BSN or master’s degree in nursing.
  2. Eligible for Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Texas.
  3. Minimum two years of experience in nursing leadership positions.
  4. Commitment to excellence in teaching and learning consistent with the nursing program’s vision, mission and goals as evidenced by a presentation during the campus visit with faculty.
  5. Record of accomplishments in scholarship, teaching, and service, appropriate for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (less than five years of teaching), Associate Professor (minimum five years of teaching), or Professor (minimum of ten years of teaching) in a School of Nursing.
  6. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and department established standards.

Preferred:

  1. Demonstrated success in faculty cooperative support and team development.
  2. Demonstrated leadership supporting diversity in nursing education and professional development.
  3. Experience in program development, curriculum design and evaluation, informatics and communications systems, and interprofessional teamwork.
  4. Record of accomplishments in scholarly/creative (grantsmanship and extramural funding) and service.
  5. Experience in higher education including accreditation, program review and assessment.
  6. Experience with formats of distance on-line education.
  7. Demonstrated success with leading facility initiatives such as: quality improvement, patient safety, Magnet journey, and accrediting body reviews.
  8. Holds a national certification as a certified nurse educator (CNE), certified in executive nursing practice (CENP), and/or nurse manager and leader (CNML).
