Ms. Shawn Boyd, Clinical Associate Professor


Ms. Shawn Boyd has 18 years of frontline critical care nursing experience.  She has served as a critical care nurse and preceptor for many graduate nurses. As a preceptor, Ms. Boyd discovered she loved to teach nursing students.  Her desire to teach nursing eventually led her to the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio where she earned a Master’s of Science in Acute Care of the Adult Patient.  Her Master’s degree has allowed her to serve as a Clinical Instructor inspiring students to care for patients holistically.  She has served as a Clinical Instructor for more than twenty years. 

Additionally, Ms. Boyd is considered an expert NCLEX® instructor and has taught for and contributed to curriculum for an NCLEX® Review company for several years.  As a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE), Ms. Boyd improves student clinical reasoning and application skills by teaching conceptually utilizing both interrogatory and integrative style of lecture. She currently serves as faculty of record for a pathophysiology and pharmacology course designed to meet the needs of pre-licensed nursing students.

In 2019, Ms. Boyd completed a post-master’s certificate program and secured her Board Certification as an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner.  She provides care for geriatric patients striving to improve their health and quality of life.


Earned the designation "Certified Nurse Educator" (CNE) after meeting strict eligibility criteria and successfully completing a rigorous certification examination developed and administered by the National League for Nursing (NLN).

Was one of the recipients of the 2013 College of Health Professions Faculty Excellence Awards in Teaching. This award recognizes outstanding faculty in the areas of Teaching, Research and Service. Both students and faculty may nominate a faculty member for the Teaching category of this award.
