Dr. Christopher McClanahan - Director, Simulation and Interprofessional Education

Dr. Christopher McClanahn
Dr. Christopher McClanahan DNP, RN, CHSE

Dr. McClanahan earned his Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing Executive Leadership degrees from Lubbock Christian University and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas.  His capstone focus was the operational and management practices of health science center based interprofessional clinical simulation centers.  Dr. McClanahan comes to Texas State as an experienced interprofessional clinical simulation coordinator and undergraduate BSN and ADN program faculty instructor.  Chris is a member of the International Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning, Society for Simulation in Nursing, Texas Interprofessional Consortium, Texas Nurses Association.  Dr. McClanahan has served on numerous State and National organizational committees and is published regarding simulation.

Ryan Douglas - Lab Manager

Mr. Ryan Douglas
Ryan Douglas BSIT, CHSOS

Mr. Douglas oversees technical operations in the simulation labs and assists with planning, budgeting, and administrative support. His experience with IT and telecom span nearly three decades and include military service, roles in state government, healthcare, and higher education. Ryan's specialties include manikin programming, scenario design, and audiovisual support. He is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) and has been involved with medical simulation since 2010. Mr. Douglas has presented at both regional and national simulation conferences and remains active in the simulation community.

Lenora Valdez - Clinical Assistant Professor and Standardized Patient Coordinator

Lenora Valdez, MSN, RN, CNE, CHSE, CHSOS

Lenora Valdez earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Arkansas Tech University and a Master of Science in Nursing Education from the University of Phoenix. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Liberty University's Nursing Education program. Her nursing experience includes inpatient cardiology, adult med-surgical, acute care, psych, and community nursing. Lenora is passionate about the valuable role that simulation plays in developing learner confidence and safer practices in healthcare. She holds certifications as a Certified Nurse Educator, a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator, and a Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse. She is also an active member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, the International Association of Clinical Simulation, and the Association of Standardized Patient Educators.

Stephen (Rob) Robertson - SimLab Information Specialist

Mr. Robertson helps to coordinate simulations, maintain lab equipment, and facilitate learning activities in real-time. Rob brings a wide range of experience to his role as a prehospital care provider, Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) instructor, and maritime medical training program manager. His intrinsic drive to deliver realism in training was developed over a decade as the lead instructor on military mobile training teams providing authentic, lifesaving interprofessional simulations to thousands of students across the nation. He received his Bachelor of Science in political science from Texas A&M University in 2018 and maintains an active presence in the simulation community.
